Ravens Get Props

Getty Images for Reebok) *** Local Caption *** Ryan Hurley;Mike ThompsonToday my father-in-law bought us all tickets to go see a semi-final game in the NCAA Lacrosse Final Four. The tournament is being held at the M&T Bank Stadium, which is the home stadium for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. This is only my second lacrosse game ever so I barely understand what I'm watching, but my wife's family is big into it as both her sister and brother played lacrosse in Division I NCAA. So, we went. But, that is neither here nor there, because I went into the bathroom and low and behold they had a changing table in the men's room. YEA! Very happy to see an NFL stadium acknowledging that fathers can change a diaper now and again!

College Park Starbucks

Unfortunately all the independent coffee shops close by have either closed or are now opening later in the day. Usually on Tuesday Andrea and I have alittle 'date' while Adelais is at nursery school and like to just hang out at a coffee shop instead of going home. So, now, since there is not really another choice we go to the College Park Starbucks - it's not that I'm so totally against Starbucks, but I do like to support local. But, I guess I shouldn't be surprised since this is a 'college' town, there are no changing tables in either of the bathrooms. Really disappointing since most Starbucks have changing tables, and, really, how much can they cost? Especially for business like Starbucks.

Hanging In Lexington, VA

I'm down in Lexington, VA for a couple of days while my wife and her dance partner (Arachne Aerial Arts) performing at William and Lee University. While I've been here I haven't had much time to explore - with a big snow fall and all - but, I was disappointed with two places we went to earlier today.

Adelais and I went to see the performance today at the Lenfest Hall and during intermission we went to change her diaper. Unfortunately we found that none of the mens' rooms had a changing tables. The arts center isn't the newest building, but there is certainly plenty of room to add a changing table in any of the bathrooms we checked out. A big disappointment.

After the performance we went out to eat to The Southern Inn, a local landmark for the last couple of decades - someone mentioned that their mother went there on her first date in 1938. It was good to very good southern cooking. Of course, the bathrooms haven't been updated since the 1970s or so...hence, no changing tables and even no room to lay her on a changing pad on the floor. Excellent time, disappointed in the bathrooms.

Caribou Coffee is a YES

I was doing some working in the Caribou Coffee in Silver Spring and was pleasantly surprised when I went into the bathroom and found a changing table. Adelais wasn't with me, but in the future I know that I will not be left stranded if the needs arises!

Food Matters, yes it does

Went for New Year's morning brunch today with the family and some friends in Alexandria, VA. Friends suggested Food Matters, so we gave it a try. The restaurant opened at 9am, but when we arrived at 9:30 we were the first ones there and the staff seemed alittle slow moving - I'm sure they weren't too happy to be working so early. But, the food was quite good - well prepared, tasted very fresh and they gave us free black-eyed peas as an appetizer - suppose to be good luck for the new year. Before we began to eat I took Adelais to the bathroom and, yes Virginia, they had a changing table. So, good food and a changing table is waiting for you at Food Matters in Alexandria, VA.

Busboys, Poets and Disappointment

Andrea's brother was in town for the holidays, so after alittle work out at my wife's Pure Joe Pilates Studio we decided to go out for lunch at the every popular Busboys and Poets. We went to the 5th street location because it was the closest. We got pizza, a panini and some nachos - all very good. Andrea's brother commented that it felt like what Starbucks must have been like when they had only 3 locations and were afraid to offend anyone.

To our disappointment they not only didn't have a changing table in the men's room, but did not have one in the women's room either. Being a socially conscious business we would have thought they would support people with children. Where do they think we change our daughter's diapers if there is no changing table? Do they care? Do they want families to come to their restaurant? Some places don't surprise me with their lack of support, but Busboys and Poets certainly disappoint in this one regard.

Crispers in Florida

We're down visiting my family in Florida and we went to a local-ish chain that my parents like called Crispers. It is certainly decent food for a chain, but the person at the register didn't know what had dairy and what didn't, which is too bad since Adelais is allergic. But, going into the men's bathroom I was pleased to see that they did have a changing table. So, my daughter couldn't eat any of their food, but we could change her diaper if needed.
